Dear Diario,
Those L.A. Roller Derby Chicks...talk about some hard-core girls! Crash and I heard about some auditions being held by the girls and we decided to join in on the fun...lol...or should I say pain? We had to step up our skating game if we wanted to stand a chance. So, we went down to the beach to practice our skating. I was pretty good at skating when I was younger, or so I thought, but after a short period of time on wheels, I found out that it wasn't true. We thought since our skills weren't all there, at least our gear would be, so we designed some shirts to wear and brought some helmets for the extra protection we were definitely going to need.
We get to where the skating rink is and it was crazy intimidating – esas mujeres were no joke. Todas tenían caras de criminales...lol...con ganas de matar. We were fresh meat. Bueno, las conocimos y empezamos a practicar dentro del rink. No nos fue muy bien, pero a mi me fue un chin mejor que a la pobre Crash. El tiempo de empezar the match vino and they put Crash and I on opposite teams. I wasn’t feeling that at all. I was actually very scared about the whole thing, to tell you the truth. I didn’t want to get hurt or hurt anybody else. So, you know what happened next – I got hurt. I fell flat on my pompom. Man, como me dolió eso. But along with that pain came determination. I was determined to not fall anymore – 'cause that sh*t hurt. But you know, I fell again...lol.
The entire time I felt like I was skating for my life, with angry girls swishing past me, throwing elbows at me, hoping that I would get trampled. Man, that was intense. Gracias a mi divino niño I didn’t die. I soon came to the conclusion that Roller Derby would not be a hobby I pick up. I’d much rather skate alongside children and the elderly. But I do give it up to all those girls. If you’ll excuse me, I need to ice my pompom...chao.
Besos, Yasmin
