They're polite, energetic and clean cut. They don't drink or do drugs. Their last record went platinum. It's called Riot!

Paramore admit they're more pop than punk, but they know how to kick out the jams. On their smash hit Misery Business, a teen-aged Hayley Williams manages to evoke Pat Benatar and Kelly Clarkson while brothers Josh and Zac Farro, on guitars and drums, unfold the central riff like a piece of origami. The band jokes most of their fans are teen girls who dye their hair red in tribute to lead singer Williams but their music has inspired praise from the likes of John Mayer, heavy promotion by MTV and a Grammy nomination in the same category as Amy Winehouse and Feist. Powered by catchy teen angst lyrics and the business savvy emo label Fueled by Ramen, the foursome is easily the more rock, less steady successor to No Doubt. Four years ago, they were practicing their instruments after school. On most weeks this year, they'll perform in front of more people than the entire population of their hometown of Franklin, Tennessee. But being modest, middle-class Christians, the group is unlikely to disintegrate under the hot lights of fame. For one, their lead singer still expresses surprise with "Oh my gosh." But more importantly, they're too busy to screw up: they're currently co-headlining a national tour with their idols Jimmy Eat World.

And while they're unlikely to command any rioting, they might just inspire a few more girl-fronted bands. Troublemakers.
