Germán Montero

Germán Montero is doing just fine on his own.

In 2007, after spending six years in what some would consider a dream gig as a vocalist for La Arrolladora Banda El Limón, Montero quit. Some speculated he would jump to "rival" group Banda El Recodo. But within a year, the 29-year-old silenced the rumors and announced he was going solo. Despite receiving support from La Arrolladora diehards, Montero was dogged by accusations that he ditched the band before it could find a replacement. Not so, says Montero: "I didn't leave them without letting them know first, of course not. I did the right thing."

Montero who was born in Los Mochis, Sinaloa and cites Vicente Fernández, Pedro Infante, Joan Sebastián as his idols, released his solo debut, Pensando En Ti, early last year. When the album produced two hits, the romantic title track and the naughty Amantes Escondidos, the singer was quick to give credit to Camacho and his band: "I know I come from a good school… the only thing I learned from [La Arrolladora] were good things."

Montero's graduation came last year, when Vicente Fernández invited him to sing a duet during a live show. Montero is currently working on his new album, which is scheduled for a Spring release. In the meantime, fans can listen to him with Luis Fonsi on the Puerto Rican pop-rocker's banda version of "No Me Doy Por Vencido."
