Shakira and Beyonce's Beautiful Liar is heating up the charts. “This is no Mariah Carey vs. Whitney Houston duet,” proclaims Billboard.com, “where either appears interested in bulldozing the other.” The clash of divas may not be stunning, says About.com, but the collaboration "does have its charms.”
Spanish singer Miguel Bosé celebrates his 30th anniversary in the music biz with Papito, a duets album that features Julieta Venegas, Shakira, Juanes, Paulina Rubio, Ricky Martin and Michael Stipe of R.E.M. The greatest hits package is described by Esmas.com as a “rhythmic fusion where Bosé's experience plays alongside his collaborators particular styles.” Los 40.com heralds the album as “one of the most ambitious projects, in recent years, in the Spanish pop world.”
Moenia's Solar album has recently been released in the U.S. La Opinión Digital's take on the Mexican trio's latest is that its synthpop sound is less prevalent this time around with “intense guitars that reflect a more Latin rock sound”. Two blogs, Stochastic Adventure and Popsynth.com, declare it to be simply “awesome”.
G-Unit rapper Buck Marley, better known as Young Buck, returns with his sophomore album, Buck The World. Down-South.com gives the album four stars for “Buck's best performance to date.” Lamenting the recent downturn in sales from G-Unit members, XXLmag.com is confident that Buck's latest shot “will be heard around the world.”
According to Rolling Stone, the tracks that make most of LCD Soundsystem's Sound of Silver album “could be lost late-Eighties dance classics.” The BBC is even more enthusiastic about the band's second effort, which “manages to translate harsh, neurotically discordant punk-funk values into a contagious dancefloor commerciality.”
