Over 80 percent of the doctors in the city have become "conscientious objectors" and will not perform the procedure, while some hospitals have added "unnecessary" fees and rules to delay the process.

The California Supreme Court has ruled that doctors are not allowed to discriminate against gay patients on the basis of religious beliefs. The ruling comes after two Christian doctors refused to artificially inseminate 36-year-old Guadalupe Benitez – a lesbian – who was undergoing fertility treatments.
