Peru declared a state of emergency after indigenous groups occupied oil installations and a hydroelectric plant in protest of a law which they say makes it easier for energy companies to purchase their resource-rich land.

Ecuador is asking developed countries for $350 million to not drill for oil in the Amazon Rainforest, estimated to be half the amount the country would earn in oil profits if it moved forward with drilling.
