Japan is offering thousands of dollars to immigrants, many of them from Brazil and Perú, to return to their countries of origin – if they agree to never return to work in Japan. Thousands of Japanese emigrated to Brazil and Perú at the turn of the 20th century.

A Japanese man who has been living in a Mexico City airport for three months says he has no plans on leaving. Mexican authorities say the man, who has survived on fast-food restaurant donations, can't be forced to leave until his visa expires in March. (via Boing Boing)

In honor of Barack Obama's presidential victory, Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki has declared today a national holiday in his country. Obama's father, a Kenyan economist, passed away in a car accident in 1982. Meanwhile, the city of Obama, Japan is also celebrating.
