Leftist FMLN leader Mauricio Funes was sworn in as president of El Salvador and immediately restored the Central American country's ties with Cuba.

Mauricio Funes of the left-wing FMLN party was elected President of El Salvador this past weekend. It is the first time in 18 years the conservative Arena party loses a presidential election.
