Diego "Don Diego" Montoya, the ex-leader of one of Colombia's most powerful drug cartels, was sentenced to 45 years in prison by a federal judge in Miami. Montoya's organization is believed to have been the leading smuggler of cocaine to the U.S. in the '90s.

The Obama Administration has advised federal law enforcement agencies to move away from arresting medical marijuana users and distributors in states where such activity is legal, reversing the Bush Administration's policy of prosecuting medical marijuana users in states where the sale was sanctioned.

Federal authorities in México have shut down 10 drug rehabilitation clinics in Ciudad Juárez after 28 people were killed in two separate incidents this month. Ciudad Juarez spokesman Sergio Belmonte: "They are recruitment centers, because their most faithful soldiers are the addicts."

At least 18 people were killed at a drug treatment clinic in Ciudad Juárez, México after armed men stormed in and opened fire. Law enforcement officials say the gunmen were most likely targeting members of rival drug cartels who were in hiding.
