The Department of Homeland Security has removed controversial Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio's ability to arrest undocumented immigrants solely due to their immigration status. The U.S. Department of Justice is currently investigating Arpaio's department for racial profiling.

An Arizona rancher who held 16 Mexicans after they trespassed onto his property by the U.S.-Mexico border has been acquitted of violating their civil rights. The rancher, Roger Barnett, was ordered to pay four women $73,000 for assault and emotional distress.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona is being accused of racial profiling. Arpaio has sent out sheriff's deputies into Latino communities and arrested those who cannot prove they are legal U.S. residents. Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon says Arpaio is violating the U.S. Constitution: "If you're brown, you're going to be pulled over, and if you're white, you're not. It's as simple as that."

Arizona officials are working to obtain a special work visa for Manuel Jesus Cordova, an illegal immigrant from México. Cordova rescued a nine-year-old boy whose mother died in a car accident. The 26-year-old father of four was sent back to Sonora, México after authorities took custody of the boy.
