politics: Senate delays immigration vote – again

This past Thursday, the U.S. Senate voted 46 to 53 in favor of "limiting debate" on President Bush' immigration reform bill, effectively postponing a decision until the Fall or even next year – right in the middle of the 2008 Presidential race. Democratic Senator Charles Schumer of New York said it was a "sad day for America." Republican Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina proclaimed: "The American people won today. They care enough for their country to get mad and to fight for it."
The contentious legislation, which could have given an estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants a chance at permanent residency, fell short by 14 votes, prompting President Bush to lament: "The American people understand the status quo is unacceptable when it comes to our immigration laws. A lot of us worked hard to see if we couldn't find common ground. It didn't work." Supporters of the legislation were unable to convince its opponents that the bill did not provide "amnesty" for those breaking the law.
In its place, individual states will continue to pass laws, some quite harsh, to deal with the millions of illegal immigrants currently living and working in the U.S. – as well as their employers.

all i want to say 2 is that they should make the immigrants citizens cause immigrants r just like americans except they problaly speak spanish and may b a different color of skin ...........i guess the presedent and other pplz against the immigrant thing just dont get it .................they think immigrants c ome here to america 2 take their jobs away from them i guess .........but that just wat i think so bye pplz
