At an outdoor fairgrounds converted into a courtroom in Iowa, 270 illegal immigrants were sentenced to prison and deportation in proceedings that lasted four days. The immigrants were detained in a raid of meatpacking plant. According to the New York Times: "Until now, relatively few immigrants caught in raids have been charged with federal crimes like identity theft or document fraud."
