- For the first time in American history, one out of every 100 Americans is in prison, according to a report by the Pew Center on the States. In Kentucky, the crime rate has increased "about 3 percent in the past 30 years, while the state's inmate population has increased by 600 percent."
- U.S. officials announced that technical problems will delay the first phase of a U.S.-Mexico "virtual border fence" for three years.
- Daddy Yankee has launched a scholarship program, "Edúcate Con Impacto," designed to provide financial aid to students who have committed crimes but want to turn their lives around with a college education.
- American Idol winner Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown battle cold weather in a new video, "No Air."
