- Abraham Quintanilla, father of the late Tejano star Selena, has confirmed that three family-owned Selena boutiques will close their doors due to the slumping economy. The Selena Etc, Inc. stores, which featured Selena-inspired clothes and merchandise, were located in Corpus Christi, Houston and San Antonio, Texas.
- President Obama has nominated Seattle Police Chief R. Gil Kerlikowske as the nation's drug czar. Kerlikowske, whose own stepson was recently arrested on drug charges, said his main focus will be on prevention.
- Mariah Carey braids hair and makes Kool-Aid in a new video by The-Dream, "My Love."

- Congress has passed a bill that eases travel restrictions to Cuba. Cuban-Americans may now travel to the island once a year and send greater amounts of money to relatives.
- Sarah Palin's 18-year-old daughter, Bristol Palin, has broken up with fiancé and baby daddy Levi Johnston.
- The Department of Homeland Security may give the U.S.-México virtual fence another chance. The $600 million project made up of high-tech sensors and cameras was scrapped last year after testing resulted in months of malfunctions.
- Chris Brown has withdrawn his name from the Kids' Choice Awards nominations after parents complained to Nickelodeon about his continued presence on the ballot.
