- President Obama has pledged his support for a bill that prevents credit card companies from increasing the fees and interest rates billed to its customers. He has also urged lenders to do away with confusing conditions and credit card statements.
- The U.S. has declared a public health emergency after 20 cases of swine flu were diagnosed in five states, including California, New York and Texas. The swine flu is believed to have killed at least 103 people in México and infected over 1,000 others. Although cases have been discovered from Canada to New Zealand, The White House says "It's not a time to panic."
- Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo says he will not resign despite admitting he fathered a child while he was a Catholic Bishop. Since his confession, two other women have claimed Lugo fathered children with them.
- The U.S. Justice Department will allow the release of nearly 2,000 images of prisoner abuse in Iraq and Afghanistan. Spanning over five years, the pictures were previously blocked from publication by the Bush administration.

- Kanye West is the "eighth wonder of the world" in a new video, "Amazing," featuring Young Jeezy.
- The College Board has pledged its support for the Dream Act, which gives undocumented children aged 15 and under (who have been living in the U.S. for five years) access to in-state college tuition and federal financial aid.
- Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa "cruised" to re-election this weekend after defeating his closest opponent, ex-President Lucio Gutierrez, by a 20 percent margin in the country's presidential election.
- Fourteen U.S. Border Patrol agents have been arrested on corruption charges so far this year. Border Patrol officials say Mexican drug cartels are attempting to infiltrate the organization in an effort to get around law enforcement.
