- The New York Times visits the Dominican Republic to examine illegal immigration to poor countries from even poorer countries. The World Bank estimates there are 74 million “south to south” migrants, a term it uses to describe anyone moving from one poor or developing country to another.
- The United Nations sent more disaster relief experts to Latin America in 2007 than ever before, a trend it relates, at least in part, to global warming.
