- A retired State Department worker named Kendall Myers and his wife have been indicted on charges of spying for Cuba for over 30 years.
- An estimated 345,000 jobs were cut in May, bringing the U.S. unemployment rate up to 9.4 percent. The good news: the pace of job losses is slowing.

- Officials from Venezuelan television station Globovision says the station is being unfairly targeted by bitter rival Hugo Chávez. Globovision, the only remaining opposition TV network on the air in the South American country, was ordered to pay $2.3 million in back taxes.
- Over 30 people died in protests in Perú between law enforcement and indigenous people in the Amazon region who claim their government is allowing foreign companies to exploit their land.
