Three weeks ago, nearly a thousand punks and metal heads took over the Plaza de Armas in Querétaro, central México, to rid the park of "emos." Outnumbered, the mob's victims could do little but huddle together and try to absorb the punches and taunts. Only a few days later, a similar confrontation took place a hundred miles away in Mexico City.
Mexicans, long accustomed to disturbing news of violent crime, were shocked by television coverage of the mass violence. Over the last few years, emo, a fashion and music style defined by androgynous make-up, angular haircuts, tight clothes and a pop-punk sound, has become popular with teens throughout México largely due to the spread of MySpace and the global appeal of such bands as My Chemical Romance and Dashboard Confessional. The wave has lifted Mexican groups like Pxndx (Panda), Insite and Avella Ink into the spotlight. But not everyone in this often traditional and sometimes machista society is keen on this gender and genre bending youth movement.
News reports cite homophobia as a likely factor in the attacks. Many anti-emo videos, blogs and bulletins contain slogans like "Movimiento Anti Emosexual" and "Emo is gay."
Some have blamed Telehit VJ Kristoff for provoking anti-emo sentiment with angry rants and emo-bashing sketches. (Telehit is owned by the powerful Mexican broadcaster Televisa.) After the attacks, Kristoff responded: "I may not agree with the emo philosophy, but I would die to defend their right to express themselves."
Last weekend, demonstrations were held in Mexico City and Tijuana in solidarity with the victims of the violent attacks, but tensions remain high. Few are certain as to what sparked the violence and whether there is yet more to come.

THIS IS REALLY WR0NG WHAT THERE DOING IN MEXICO. MEXICO GETS JUDGED FOR A LOT OF THINGS AND HERE COMES THIS TO MAKE IT EVEN WORSE. WE COMPLAIN ABOUT "RACISIM" BEING "SEXIST" BUT WE DONT THINK THAT WE ARE JUDGING THE "EMO'S" THE WAY WE GET JUDGED. I THINK THIS NEEDS TO STOP AND FAST. BEFORE THINGS GET EVEN WORSE. IF THEY WANT TO BE EM0 LET THEM. EVERYONE SAYS "BE YOURSELF" WHAT IF THEY ARE BEING THEMSELVES??

EMOs, they haven't done anything wrong to be attacked like that!!!
Believe it or not , Emos are HUMANS, they are not cold robots !!
I even have an Anti-EMO friend (living in Queretaro), he was going to take part on the attack but his parents didn't let him out, but after he saw on the News how EMOs were beaten he suddenly said to me "Poor Emos D:".
Y lo peor del caso es que muchos Anti-Emos se defienden diciendo que su simple presencia ya es una molestia, que estan hartos de ellos.

Solo por expresarse ya son una molestia ????
Y lo peor es que no va a terminar ahi, porque ya de por si hay muchos que sin razon odian a los EMOs y creen tener la razon y estan por todo el mundo.
Hasta por defender a los EMOs me llaman EMO y ya hay personas que ni me hablan justo por eso
Psss, todo esto se debe al error #1 del humano en la sociedad....... No quieren comprender a los demas y creen que sus ideas son totalitarias, p**** egoismo.

omfg this is stupid. The same thing is happening here in England. I'm labled emo, and i get crap for it. Just because we listen to differant music and don't wear "fashinable" clothes doesn't give you the right to prosecute us FOR NO REASON OTHER THAN WE ARE DIFFERANT!!! This is getting ridiculous how people can even think of hurting someone because of what they wear and/or what they listen to. And they wonder why Emo's are Emo's? maybe they made then that way. GRR!!! This is just so unfair!!!
There has been many deaths this year because "chavs" (Emo haters, like preps but orse) beat then up for fun.
